The Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz is an all-time classic that has delighted fans since 1939 when MGM released their original screenplay. Considered a musical classic, the screenplay has been envisioned with the stage as the focal point.

Ideal for audiences of all ages, The Wizard of Oz follows the iconic Dorothy as she’s thrust into the magical world of Oz; a long way from her home in Kansas.

Dorothy meets up with her fellow cast members along the way, including the Tin Man, Toto, her dog, and of course, the Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow. The Wicked Witch of the West awaits as Dorothy tries to enlist the help of the Wizard of Oz to help save her.

The most recent theatrical performance contains many of the songs that make The Wizard of Oz a classic, including “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “Follow the Yellow Brick Road.”

The Wizard of Oz the musical first opened in the West End in 2011. The production, despite its many cast and production changes, was seen by over 500,000 people by 2013. The musical tour is now back in 2017, with the tour slated to visit Australia.

The performance features Act I and Act II.

The scene opens up with the Orphaned Dorothy Gale. Filled with drama and true to the original screenplay, The Wizard of Oz starts with Toto biting the leg of Miss Gulch. The events lead to a frantic situation. Dorothy is distressed, Miss Gulch is threatening to call the cops and the little girl runs off.

A twister interrupts Dorothy’s conversation with Professor Marvel, and she is thrust into a new world – the world of Oz.

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice both helped produce new numbers for the musical. Many of the original songs remain, but some have been added, including “The Wonders of the World,” a song dedicated to Professor Marvel.

“If I Were King of the Forest,” featured in the screenplay, has been omitted from the theatre performance.

Numerous other original numbers have been added, including “Red Shoes Blues.”

Special effects, design and production value exceed expectations. Set and costume design will leave the crowd in awe, as the Kansas twister rips through the stage. Critics call the show “hugely enjoyable,” while others state that there is too much “dramatic buzz” behind the performance.

Fans of the original Wizard of Oz will find the night filled with fun, magic and wonder.
